We Are Oshawa is a membership-based grassroots, non-partisan organization. The purpose of our organization is to make progressive issues a priority in Oshawa. We Are Oshawa aims to empower and mobilize residents to become active agents for social change in their community. We recognize that all members of our organization have different experiences and backgrounds which shape the varying perspectives and forms of power and privilege that we each bring with us while organizing. With this in mind, we commit to lovingly open our minds, engage and challenge our own and others’ biased or discriminatory behaviours and comments.

We Are Oshawa encourages all members to make an effort to learn about the experiences and backgrounds of one another. Leave judgements of others aside and recognize that we cannot understand all the different experiences and barriers that people face. We Are Oshawa also aims to create a positive space for democratic meetings where all can participate meaningfully regardless of race, gender, class, sexuality, age or ability. Any and all sexist, racist, homophobic, ableist, ageist, transphobic or otherwise oppressive language or behaviour will not be tolerated.
